“Add in any credit that you heard thus far”: Sampling and the research process

When you really think about it, traditional modes of hip hop music production and the academic research process are more or less the same thing. Both practices require that information consumers become information producers; when done well, the end products are always greater than just the sum of their parts. This presentation will explore the similarities and differences inherent to the two practices from a non-punitive and non-rockist perspective.
