As a result\, ULU has collaborated with friends at Haven Boxing to create a class that can help you do just that. \nWE keep us safe. So come to this class to start learning the skills you need to de-escalate moments of crisis safely. \nHaven Paradigm\n60 minute class\n\nHaven Paradigm is a 60-minute hybrid class created specifically for local library workers to feel empowered\, stand your ground\, and understand how embodiment powers de-escalation. Our goal is for library workers to walk away with brand new skills to add to their tool belt when faced with clients or members of the community during moments of tension.\nMake sure to wear comfortable clothes\, sneakers\, aid bring a bottle of water for this killer workout!\nTickets to this event are subsidized by Urban Librarians Unite with the generous support of the Mellon Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:The federal cuts to IMLS are affecting libraries and library workers everywhere. Whether it’s losing interlibrary loan services\, funding for staff\, or critical grants to keep library programs running\, we’re already seeing the casualties of the cuts in action. They’re destabilizing our access to information and jeopardizing the beating heart of our country’s cultural and educational landscape. \nThe devastation to library workers\, students\, and patrons cannot be overstated enough. Which is why we won’t be silent. \nHere at ULU\, our focus has always been on the livelihoods of library workers\, which is why we’re assembling an emergency library advocacy session on Wednesday\, April 30. We’ll be writing postcards to our elected officials to demand that they stand up for libraries and a full restoration of budget cuts. \nWe’ll kick things off at 6pm—and we’ll have pizza! You’ll also get to see our new office space in East Williamsburg\, to get a taste of where some of the magic happens.
