From the Board of Urban Librarians Unite,
Urban Librarians Unite echoes the call made by Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer this afternoon: Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Public Library should follow the same plan of action as New York Public Library, and close all units until at least March 31st.
We understand the vital role public libraries play in our communities better than anyone, however we also know that the patrons who are most likely to be harmed by the closure of public libraries are the same patrons who are most likely to be harmed by the spread of the virus. For their health and safety, as well as the health and safety of staff and other community members, we urge the BPL and QPL leadership to make the same decision immediately.
In Solidarity with our Colleagues,
ULU
