If you’re reading this post, you are likely all too familiar with our line of work and probably know that our days can be… unpredictable. Patrons and community members can come to us in moments of distress, resulting in circumstances that require de-escalation. While we never want tensions in libraries to rise, sometimes they do. And sometimes that leaves library workers on the frontlines of crisis de-escalation.
This is why we’re partnering with friends at HAVEN Boxing on August 9 to offer a special self-defense and movement class for NYC library workers. These will go over tactics to keep us and our patrons safe, in moments when we’re faced with lowering hostile energy in our libraries.
Library workers will get to take the class at a discounted rate of $10. If all goes well, we may offer the class next month as well! Register for the class here.
Be sure to wear comfy clothes and sneakers, and to come with water!
