Would you love to attend the Urban Librarians Conference (Friday, May 6 at Brooklyn Public Library) but you can’t scrape together the cash? Are you an MLIS student or under/unemployed librarian who could really use a little extra financial help to continue your professional learning?

We want to hear from you! We have six scholarships available to the Urban Librarians’ Conference.  Every Library has sponsored 4 *yay them!* and a mysterious anonymous benefactor has sponsored 2 more. If selected, we will grant you free registration to the conference OR refund your purchase if you already plan to attend.

To apply, send us your resume and short essay telling us why you’d benefit from attending the conference. In your essay, be sure to include a statement of financial need. We’re looking for bold, unique voices from the librarian community with something to add to our burgeoning conversation about urban librarianship.

Details:

  • Send your resume (as a .doc or .pdf attachment) and combined essay and statement of financial need (300 words or less) to urbanlibrariansunite@gmail.com
  • Applications will be accepted until end of day April 20th (11:59pm EST)
  • Winners will be notified by Friday, April 22nd
  • More information about the conference can be found at urbanlibrariansconference.org

Reasons to apply:

  1. It’s a great place to meet and learn from librarians in the New York City Metro area
  2. There are great speakers including R. David Lankes!
  3. It costs a fraction of the price of other library conferences (which means SO MANY awesome people come!)
  4. Learn about current programs and offerings in the public library systems
  5. Lastly and most importantly, introduce yourself to other librarians or library school students!
