This year’s 24 Hour Read In was amazing and exhausting. Hundreds of volunteers, authors, readers, listeners, volunteers, and supporters came out in the course of the day to show their support for public libraries in New York City. This support is crucial as we continue to push back against potentially devastating budget cuts. Should these cuts go through dozens of libraries will be closed and others will be limited to 2-3 day a week service.

There will also be jobs lost. Great librarians will get the axe, people who have been busting their tails for library patrons for years will get bumped out by budget cuts. It’s bad enough that new MLS students are having such a hard time but what happens when genuinely brilliant librarians can’t do storytime anymore?

We think that stinks and you should too. Please take a few minutes and call in to 311June 19th and 20th and support not just your library but the librarians who give it life.

Sample Script
“I’d like to make a budget comment for the mayor, I believe closing any libraries in NYC is unacceptable and I’m calling to request the complete restoration of library funding”
