Mellon Foundation Boosts Urban Librarians Unite with $1M Grant for Urban Library Worker Empowerment

Urban Librarians Unite (ULU) has received a one-million-dollar grant from The Mellon Foundation, the largest in ULU’s history. The grant, spread over four years, will enable ULU to expand its professional development, mentorship, and resource creation initiatives for urban library workers and continue its focus on worker health, policy model creation, library advocacy, and refugee support.

Statement on the 2024 November Financial Plan

Urban Librarians Unite (ULU) opposes Mayor Adams’ decision to cut the city budget by 5%, warning it could harm libraries and communities. ULU criticizes the mayor’s tactic of blaming asylum seekers for the budget cut and urges him to find equitable solutions. They reiterate their commitment to advocate for a fair city budget that strengthens the community.
